The Literacy Council of Montgomery County (LCMC), a private, non-profit organization dedicated to helping adults in Montgomery County learn to speak, read, write and understand English, seeks several part-time ESL instructors for our fall semester. Class sessions run for three days/evenings per week for 10 weeks, providing a total of 90 hours of instruction to our adult learners. Our classes are funded by and required to meet the standards of the Maryland Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation’s Division of Workforce Development and Adult Learning, which oversees adult education for the state of Maryland.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in TESOL, English, applied linguistics or a related field.
- 2 years of experience teaching ESL to adults.
- Experience working with learner assessment data.
- Experience working with standards-based instructional content.
- Experience with standardized language assessment systems (e.g. CASAS, BEST) preferred.
- Understanding of and accommodations for the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds and special needs of adult ESL learners.
Desired Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in TESOL, English, applied linguistics or a related field.
- Familiarity with MD Adult ESL Content Standards.
- Familiarity with assessing students with standardized language assessment systems and/or teaching the standardized competencies.
